The liver has fine red mottling of its surface superimposed on background pallor. The acinar pattern is slightly exaggerated. The edges of the lobes stand clear of the underlying viscera, suggestive of capsular tension (acute swelling). The serosa of some intestinal loops shows delicate reddish mottling.
