This month’s image contest winner is a gorgeous scanning electron micrograph of a digenean Renicola sloanei operculated egg sampled from the kidney of a Manx shearwater (Puffinus puffinus). At the aperture, the “little lid” (operculum) is defined by the circumferential collar (opercular shoulder).
