History:Presented for colic of approximately 24 hoursÕ duration. Borborygmi were absent and the abdomen was distended but nasogastric intubation yielded no net gastric reflex. Palpation per rectum revealed a taut colonic band coursing from right to left.
Gross Lesions:At the junction of the pelvic flexure and left dorsal colon was an approximately 15 cm diameter intramural mass with distinct borders that caused narrowing of the lumen and mild obstruction. The mass extended from the antimesenteric border to the mesentery, which was also thickened.
